ZenCog Bicycle Company  custom builds 700c single speed coaster brake bikes. These one of a kind custom bikes are built with the finest components available.

The minimalist simplicity of the ZenCog will bring back childhood memories with back pedal braking. The high quality ZenCog silently glides over the pavement. At approximately 24 pounds, this big tire steel steed is built for comfort, durability, and go anywhere fun!
You select the frame size, cog size, frame color, saddle color and handlebar type. The ZenCog comes with the cog  of your choice (16t-22t), which is easily changed with the coaster hub snap lock ring.

Zen is about self discovery to find out who you are, not who others perceive you to be.

It is the same with the ZenCog.  Once you look inside yourself, you can find the sweet spot to the most simple personal bicycling experience.
You will be surprised that one speed is all you need. No more changing gears or adjusting that evil front derailleur.

Your favorite color, gearing,  and handlebar style. ZenCog is built for you!

The ZenCog frame is made from high quality Reynolds 520 cromoly steel. Steel absorbs more of the imperfections in the road for a smooth ride. Steel is real!

Thanks for considering a ZenCog - Clark
I founded ZenCog on a simple premise. It all started when I was on a charity ride with my fully geared Scott. I met a guy from Riverside who had what appeared to be a fixie.  It wasn't, it was a single speed coaster brake KHS custom built.

That bike haunted me, I could not get it out of mind.  I was already building single speed bikes for myself, but after I built the first ZenCog, I had to share the joy.

The simple premise that started ZenCog was sharing! The Silver Hare is mine.  It is the first ZenCog, and on display at the shop.  She will not be sold, and you can see her when I am not riding it. And I will share, you can take her out for a spin.

We will be glad to build a custom ZenCog for you with new or re-incarnated components.  Please let us know what your budget is and we will create a unique coaster brake bike just for you.  See some other bikes I have built below.

The second ZenCog is the CreamCycle. Everyone has their favorite childhood memories, and one of mine is sitting on the curb in July and eating a Creamcicle (orange ice enveloping vanilla ice cream on a stick).

I built this bike as a gift for Paula, a Yoga instructor.  The CreamCycle was given as a gift and in return, Paula introduced me to Yoga, which was a life changing event.

Here is what she has to say:

"Loving this new bicycle! Thank you so much...Paula"

The third ZenCog "Whitney Pink" was also a gift. This one was for Whitney Thompson, who had just won America's Next Top Model reality show.  My wife and daughters watched that show every week and were rooting for Whitney, a full figured model who beat out all the skinnies.

She was living in Manhattan and I built her a city cruiser, custom painted to match her nail polish.  Here is what she says:

"It's perfect! I love it! Thank you so much!"

The Chill Peppa was the third.  No longer a gift, but still sharing the joy.  I sold this bike to Dave in NYC. This puppy was totally different and brings a bit of the mountain to the city. This bike has a mountain saddle, cranks, stem, and handlebar.

Dave says:

"My boyfriend has claimed it for himself so I am now in the position of either keeping his bike (not) or getting another bike or building one. So short story , we love the bike a lot, and I can understand why you wouldn't want to put a (hand) brake on it. Thanks for it."

Christopher is a bean counter just like me in Chicago.  He works for PWC and like to get out of the city on the weekends.  He commissioned the Bumble Bee and is thrilled with the results:

"Clark!  She rides like a dream!  Got her up to 23 mph messing with a police mph meter!  That coaster brake is the way to go!"

Except for the very first ZenCog, all the decendents have been made with high quality re-incarnated components on a new frame.  Contact me to work with you to design your own unique coaster brake ZenCog.
